As the Season 5 Reloaded update for Call of Duty approaches, Activision has revealed the latest content additions for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, sparking both excitement and controversy among the fanbase. While the game continues to offer vibrant and unconventional new operator skins each season, many long-time fans believe these updates are straying too far from the franchise’s original tone.

Call of Duty, like other popular live-service games, releases new content through seasonal updates. The Season 5 update for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone introduced new multiplayer maps, game modes, and weapons. With the upcoming mid-season update, known as Season 5 Reloaded, even more content will be added.

Scheduled for release on August 21, the mid-season update will bring a mix of new features and game modes to both Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. While this update will close the chapter on Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, it will introduce a new Warzone mode called Supreme Resurgence and a cel-shaded map variant for Modern Warfare 3. However, the inclusion of additional operator skins has already sparked backlash from fans who feel these designs don’t align with the traditional Call of Duty aesthetic.

The new operator skins include a wide range of designs, from a colorful slug-like character to a version of The Crow portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. These additions have quickly divided the community. After CharlieIntel shared images of the new skins on Twitter, many fans ridiculed the designs, with one user calling Call of Duty a “joke.” Another Twitter user, HunterTV, expressed a desire to see Treyarch’s cosmetic team return, referring to the upcoming release of Black Ops 6, which Treyarch Studios is developing.

This isn’t the first time Call of Duty fans have been upset by operator bundles, and it likely won’t be the last. In earlier installments, the series was known for its more serious and realistic approach to cosmetic items. However, in recent years, Activision has shifted toward a more Fortnite-inspired style, offering players increasingly outlandish and fantastical bundles.

Despite the controversy, Season 5 Reloaded brings a wealth of content that players can enjoy. For those who thrive on the fast-paced action of multiplayer, a new cel-shaded version of the Stash House map will be added to the rotation, along with several new and returning game modes. Warzone players will see the introduction of the Supreme Resurgence mode on Rebirth Island, as well as new battle royale contracts to complete.

Overall, while the operator skins may continue to divide the fanbase, there’s still plenty of fresh content for players to dive into with the Season 5 Reloaded update.
